Error when starting FS Pro 2013 : There is an error in XML document (0, 0).

Symptom

When you start FS Pro 2013, you get the following error message: 

There is an error in XML document (0, 0). 

Cause

One of the .dat files in your FS Pro data folder may be corrupt.

Solution

Proceed as follows to resolve this problem:

 Close Microsoft Word.

 Navigate to the folder C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Information Mapping\FS Pro 5.0\Data

Rename (change .dat to .dat-old or similar) the following files:

  • ElementCreationSettings.dat
  • FSPro5Settings.dat
  • UpdateSettings.dat
  • UpdateVersion.dat

Note: FS Pro 2013 will restore a new version of these files the next time it is started.

Start FS Pro 2013.

Result: The error should no longer appear.
