Assigning an Information Type Attribute


The Info Type function assigns an Information Type attribute to

  • a Map 
  • one or more Blocks, or 
  • both a Map and the Blocks.

When to use

The Info Type function can be used to tag the Maps and/or blocks so they can be more easily located in a content management system.

Example: You want to update your company's procedures, so you search for all the content containing the "Procedure" attribute.

Cursor placement

Use the table below to determine where to place your cursor.

If you want to assign an Information Type attribute to a ...Then place your cursor on ...


  • the Map title 
  • in the document, or 
  • in the Outline Pane 


  • either the Block label or Block text in the document, or 
  • the Block label in the Outline Pane.


Select the Information Type attribute that you want to assign the Map or Block from the Info Type drop-down menu of the Information Mapping ribbon group.

Result: The Information Type attribute is assigned to your Map or Block.

Viewing the attribute in the Outline pane

Once a document is tagged with (an) Information Type(s) at the Map or Block level, the corresponding symbol appears next to the Map title or Block label in the Outline pane.

Example: The example below shows the Outline pane for the Microsoft Word version of this document, which has been tagged with Information Types at the Block level.
