Visual language using tables

Tables play an important role in FS Pro for Outlook documents. Maps and Blocks present the structure of your document, whereas tables help you to visualize the actual content in the Blocks.

About information types

Everything you write can be categorized into one of the six information types.

These information types

  • answer your readers’ questions, and
  • are often presented as a certain kind of table.

If you wish to answer the reader question…

Then Use the information type…

And use the FS Pro table …

How do I do something?

Procedure

  • Step/Action table, or
  • If/Then table.
  • What is happening?
  • How does something work?
Process
  • Stage/Description table, or
  • When/Then table.

What should I do or not do? (rules, guidelines, policies)

Principle as applicable.

What is something? (definition)

Concept as applicable.
  • What does something look like?r
  • what are its parts? (image)
Structure
  • Part/Function table, or
  • Part/Description table.

What are the facts?

Fact as applicable.

How to insert a table

Let’s add a Block with an If/Then table to our sample document:

Click the Block button to add a new Block at the end of the document.

Label it “Consequences”.

  • Click the arrow to the right of the button Procedure.
  • Select If/Then table.

 

Result: The If/Then table is inserted in the Block.

Add the contents of the block “Consequences” to your If/Then table.
