What's new in FS Pro for Word 8.2.1.38

Enhancements:

  • Secure updates without administrator rights (743): A new FS Pro Update service is installed with FS Pro. It installs updates in the background, so users without administrator rights can now update FS Pro without a Windows security (UAC) prompt or help from IT.
    • The Update service is only installed when FS Pro 8.2.1.x is installed with the setup file (.exe or .msi). If you update an earlier version from within FS Pro (Update Now), FS Pro keeps updating the way it did before. To start using the Update service, install this version once with the setup file.
    • Organizations that manage updates themselves can still turn off automatic updates with the `DisableUpdates` setting in `SystemSettings.dat`. The Update service respects this setting.
  • Performance and Stability Improvements (737/738/739/740): Large documents now refresh the Outline Pane faster, and Word uses less memory during long sessions. The log file now keeps useful error information longer for support. FS Pro also no longer leaves Word looking frozen or "Not Responding" when an action fails.

 

Fixes:

  • Hyperlinks and Cross-References After Inserting a Map (735): Hyperlinks, cross-references and Table of Contents entries could silently point to the wrong Map after a new Map was inserted directly above the Map they referred to. They now stay on the correct Map. If a link can't be repaired, FS Pro shows a message listing the links to recreate.
  • Blank Areas and Shifted Tables While Scrolling (741): Fixed an issue where parts of a document could show up blank, or table rows could appear shifted, after scrolling or resizing table rows. Users previously had to zoom in and out to fix the display.
  • Duplicate Outline Pane After Save As (742/722): Fixed an issue where a second Outline Pane could appear on the same document after using Save As (for example to save a PDF copy) or after Word closed abnormally. FS Pro now removes the outdated pane, so each document has exactly one working Outline Pane.
  • Word Crash When Closing a Document (744): Fixed a crash that could occur when closing another document after saving a PDF copy of an FS Pro document. FS Pro no longer changes the document that is being closed, so Word no longer shows an unexpected save prompt and closes normally.
  • Opening Documents Without FS Pro Properties (722): Opening a document whose FS Pro version property couldn't be read no longer causes an error.
  • Welcome Window (718): The Welcome window now opens reliably at startup.
